IKEA’s affordable smart home lighting will soon be compatible with Google Assistant/Home
IKEA USA will unveil an inexpensive line of LED smart lighting, TRÅDFRI, which will be compatible with Google Home and options include several different LED bulbs with prices starting at $11.99 in the US. Will be available in the U.S. between late summer and early fall.
Ikea smart lighting will be both app and voice controlled. For Ikea, the impending smart lighting’s compatibility with Google Home in general, is another step in the direction of smart homes for the masses. Ikea Home Smart business leader Björn Block said that the company hopes to “challenge everything that is complicated and expensive with the connected home,” and “[make] it easier to interact with [a user’s] smart home products.”
Ikea’s TRÅDFRI low-cost devices could become a disruptive force in smart homes. The company already helped to democratize design and lead the way in LED adoption. And, Ikea easily undercuts the popular Philips Hue lineup on price, while still matching them on specs.
