Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski Dance to Blackpink In New K-Pop-Themed Google Home Ad

“Hey Google, play my K-pop playlist,” Olympian and Olympic commentator Johnny Weir tells Google Home in a new tie-in ad to NBC’s broadcast of the 2018 Winter Games, one of many Olympic moments turning all eyes to South Korea’s music industry.

During the recent ‘2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics’ broadcast on American broadcasting network NBC, a 30-second TV commercial for the ‘Google Home’ aired, featuring American figure skating stars Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.

Johnny and Tara, highlighting various ways in which the ‘Google Home’ can make life easier for its users. In the ad, Johnny grooves to Black Pink’s “Whistle”, then makes sure he’s keeping up with his schedule with ‘Google Home’. Tara, realizing that they still have some leisure time, joins Johnny for a K-Pop dance party. Ad begins and ends with Weir and fellow Olympian and co-host Tara Lipinski dancing to the tune.

Who are Johnny Weir and Tara Lipiniski?

Johhny Weir is a veteran of two Winter Olympics, having last competed at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, where he finished sixth in the men’s individual figure skating competition.

Tara Lipinski is a former Olympian, who achieved legendary status when she was just 15 years old. At that age, she became a gold medal winner in the women’s individual skating competition at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.
